Different Superannuation Sources
An
industry fund is a multi-employer fund covering a specific industry
or range of industries. These can be either accumulation or defined benefit
funds.
Government funds are those run by the government for particular sectors
of the public service. These can be either accumulation or defined benefit
funds.
A
corporate or employer-sponsored fund is a fund set up by an employer
for the benefit of the employees. These can be either accumulation or defined
benefit funds.
A
public offer fund is open for anyone to join. And many standard
employer-sponsored funds may opt to be treated as a public offer fund. These
must have approved trustees and may be required to offer a prospectus to
members.
Self Managed or
Do it yourself super funds are where you have
control of the investment strategy and decisions in relation to your fund as
well as being responsible for making prudent investment decisions and complying
with the regulations.
Most superannuation funds use some form of managed funds to manage the
investment portfolios.
